Q2 Reset: Eight things to do in your business right now

Mid-April is one of those rare moments where you have permission to pause. Tax season pressure is lifting, Q1 is done, and Q2 is wide open. Here is what I recommend doing this week to set yourself up well.

  1. If you filed an extension, confirm your tax payment went in by April 15 to avoid penalties
  2. Pull your Q1 profit and loss report and actually read it, not just file it away
  3. Set a revenue goal for Q2, even a rough one, so you have a number to aim for
  4. Reconcile your bank and credit card accounts so your books reflect reality
  5. Send a follow-up to any clients with outstanding invoices before April ends
  6. Look at your top three expenses and ask whether each one is truly earning its place
  7. Block one hour on your calendar each month for bookkeeping or a review with your bookkeeper, starting now
  8. Start setting aside a cash reserve, even $100 a month builds a meaningful buffer over time

Upcoming Deadlines: Dates to keep on your radar

April 15, 2026 — now passed

  • Federal income tax return deadline or extension via Form 4868.
  • Any tax owed was due by this date, even with an extension on file.
  • Last day for IRA and HSA contributions for tax year 2025.
  • First 2026 estimated tax payment, covering January 1 through March 31.

June 16, 2026 — coming up

  • Second 2026 estimated tax payment, covering April 1 through May 31.
  • Start setting aside funds now so this does not catch you off guard.

FROM THE FOUNDER

Running a business when life gets loud

I will be honest with you. April has felt full this year, in the best possible way. Between supporting clients through tax season, planning our upcoming fundraising golf tournament for the Marysville Police Foundation, and just keeping up with the beautiful chaos of family life, it has been one of those months where you realize your systems either hold you up or let you down.

That is exactly why I built Safe Haven Accounting the way I did. I wanted a business that works for the life I am actually living, not one that competes with it. If your bookkeeping feels like one more thing pulling at you right now, that is a sign something needs to change, and I would love to help you figure out what.

Q2 is yours. Let's make it count.

With gratitude,
